Our attorneys have a combined forty five years' experience representing clients in multiple types of cases, and are nationally and locally recognized as some of the best in their profession. Massa Butler Giglione's attorneys and support staff have dedicated their careers to representing the victims of medical malpractice, nursing home abuse and neglect, automobile collisions, and many other serious claims in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. Each of our clients is a name, not a number, and with our combined half-century of trial experience we work tirelessly to fight the corporations and insurance companies to get our clients the justice that they deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our law firm and our attorneys. I am the founding partner of the firm. This is my opportunity to tell you something about my professional background and practice.
With a strong interest in medicine, I attended The Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a B.S. degree in biology. To further my interests in the practice of medicine, I attended and graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago as a chiropractic physician. I practiced for many years in South Florida until a neck injury ended my medical practice. Thereafter, I attended and graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida. As a law student, I served as a law review editor and as the American Bar Association representative for the University of Miami. Because of my strong roots here in Western Pennsylvania, after law school, I brought my family back home.
Through the course of my legal career, I have argued successfully before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, I have numerous million dollar recoveries and have tried many malpractice cases-including the Miller case, which remains as the largest verdict in a medical malpractice case in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. I am a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum-a select group of lawyers who have achieved recoveries of more than two million dollars. I am also a member of the Allegheny Academy of Trial Lawyers, an exclusive group of local attorneys whose sole focus is trial advocacy. I am a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, Federal Claims Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Association.
I have been involved in medicine for nearly all of my adult life and focus my practice primarily on medical cases. As a lawyer, I look at the safety rules that are designed to keep all patients safe. When hospitals, nursing homes, doctors, or other medical providers don't follow patient safety rules and someone gets hurt, we get involved.
I know that you have many choices when seeking an attorney and we appreciate the opportunity to represent you.

In over 15 years as a lawyer, Gary Butler has successfully represented hundreds of people, and some of America's most historic companies (for example: Pepsi, Bayer, Westinghouse, Ford, and General Motors), at all stages of litigation in courts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and Georgia. He was involved in one of the most infamous murder cases in American history (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. John duPont), a case that is the subject of the 2014 film Foxcatcher.
Since 2005, Gary has dedicated his practice to representing people in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases in courts throughout Pennsylvania. During that time, Gary has recovered many millions of dollars for his clients in claims that involved car wrecks, medical neglect, legal neglect, nursing home abuse, defective and dangerous products, and insurance bad faith.
In 2009, he represented a widower in a medical malpractice and wrongful death case. The trial lasted nine days, included testimony from twelve witnesses, six of who were expert witnesses, and which resulted in a wrongful death verdict for his client of $1,631,228.65. It was the largest verdict ever to come out of the particular judge's courtroom.
Gary believes that trust and good communication are the elements of a solid client-lawyer relationship. He has presented to the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society, and was a local Toastmasters champion. Gary graduated from King's College in 1993 and from Duquesne University School of Law in 1996.
